Problem.

Tropical Mellows needed a visual identity that could stand out within a highly competitive confectionery market while appealing to a younger and more playful audience.

As part of La Perla Foods, the product required a distinctive personality that felt fresh, recognizable, and emotionally engaging without losing connection to the parent brand’s legacy in the Ecuadorian candy market.

The challenge was to create a brand that captured the tropical and nostalgic nature of marshmallows while feeling modern, energetic, and visually memorable on shelves.

What I Did.

I developed the visual identity for Tropical Mellows, creating a playful and expressive system designed to communicate flavor, fun, and brand personality.

My role included:

  • Brand identity design

  • Logo exploration and refinement

  • Packaging-oriented visual thinking

  • Typography selection

  • Color palette development

  • Graphic system creation

  • Brand positioning through visual language

  • Development of a youthful and emotionally driven aesthetic

The goal was to create a confectionery brand that felt vibrant, approachable, and instantly recognizable.

Process.

The process began by understanding the product category and how marshmallow brands compete visually within retail environments.

I explored ways to combine tropical references with a softer, nostalgic aesthetic that could appeal across age groups.

Special attention was placed on color psychology, shape language, and playful composition to ensure the identity felt energetic without becoming visually chaotic.

The design process focused on balancing commercial appeal with personality — creating a system that could live naturally across packaging, campaigns, and brand communication.

Impact / Outcome.

The final identity gave Tropical Mellows a stronger and more differentiated presence within the confectionery category.

The design created a more recognizable visual language, helping the product feel approachable, youthful, and emotionally engaging.

The resulting identity supports shelf visibility while reinforcing a sense of fun and familiarity associated with marshmallow products.

The project also established a scalable visual foundation for future packaging extensions and flavor variations.

Visual Direction.

The visual direction was inspired by tropical energy, softness, and playful nostalgia.

Bright color combinations and rounded forms were introduced to create a friendly and expressive identity that immediately communicates sweetness and fun.

Typography and composition were designed to feel dynamic and approachable, reinforcing the product’s youthful positioning.

The overall aesthetic aimed to balance commercial impact with emotional warmth — creating a brand that feels vibrant, memorable, and easy to connect with.
